Zoe Saldana is Endorsing LensCrafters. A Better Move than Nina Simone.

Zoe Saldana has teamed up with LensCrafters to promote their new "My Look" service which allows customers to have 4 high definition photos taken to help them compare and choose the most fitting frames.  This is a good idea (says a glasses wearer), however I don't know if I'd want to pay extra for this.

I just had to take the Nina Simone jab, didn't I?  Sorry for being so snarky.  Zoe looks great in her glasses.

Do you Have A New Kia or Hyundai? Get Ready for Your Refund Check!

If you recently bought a Kia or Hyundai, you may be entitled to compensation until you sell your vehicle!

The Environmental Protection Agency announced today that Kia and Hyundai exaggerated the gas mileage on some of their automobile models.  For example, they claimed the Kia Soul got 35 mpg but that value will be lowered to 29 mpg.

The miscalculations were due to an error in the testing procedure.

As a result, automakers will issue debit cards to consumers who bought these cars with overestimated gas mileage.  The amount will be based on mileage, the price of gas in the area plus an additional 15%.   The great news is that the car owner can get debit cards for as long as they own the vehicle--they just have to take it to the dealer to have the odometer checked.

The Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima are not affected.

Lil Wayne New October 2012 Mountain Dew Commercial with Dew Nation

Rapper Lil Wayne's new Mtn Dew commercial hit television this weekend.  In the ad Weezy holds a bottle of Mountain Dew soda and asks the viewer a series of questions using the format "Why do this thing when you can do that same thing better?"   At the end he steps out of the shot to allow us to see a crowd of applauding people called "Dew Nation."

Apparently when he has a Mountain Dew in his hand he transforms into Deweezy.

Check out the commercial here:

Here is a little video on the Deweezy project which may put the commercial into context.

Video: McDonald's Sues the Whole City of Milan. Pushed out for Prada.

McDonald's sues Prada over commercial space on shopping strip.

McDonald's is not only suing Prada.  They are suing the whole city of Milan because they were not offered a renewal lease to retain their spot in a lineup of stores.  McDonald's has been in that same building for over 20 years and are upset that they were displaced by a Prada boutique.

$31 million dollars.  How rich do you need to be McDonald's?

Prince Tells Collections to Pay HIM! Sues for $116K

Prince Sues Collections Agency for money he says that they unrightfully removed from his bank account in the amount of over $116,000.  Apparently Capital Asset Protection was collecting funds due to a music production lawsuit Prince lost.

Don't so many wish they could turn the tables on their debt collectors like that?

Coca-Cola Billboard Ad is Racist, says Young Black Student

This young man says there is racism present in a Coca-Cola ad he saw in the suburbs of Atlanta.  The billboard ad shows three individuals seeming to represent three different Coca-Cola products.  The man in the middle is African-American and represents Powerade in Grape flavor.  The guy in the video makes mentions that he is also bald and wearing a sports jersey (fulfilling the stereotype that he plays basketball). To his left is a white male for Coca Cola (with lime) and to his right is a white woman for Sprite.

Do you think this ad is racist?

Best Tips For Online Internet Dating

A Few Pointers for Successful Online Dating

Recently MadameNoire posted an article called 14 Tips For Online Dating.   The following are the most important things that stood out to me as great advice for women (or men) trying to get the best experience out of an online dating site.

1.  Be Yourself:

It should be pretty simple but it's very easy to act differently when you are talking to someone with your fingers.  If you are shy your date will be disappointed when you meet and he sees that you are not the outgoing person you seemed to be online.  On the other hand if sarcasm is a deep component of your personality and humor,  let that show in your emails.  At least your date will have some idea of what to expect rather than be offended by your sharp words.

2.  Pick a Reputable Dating Site:

Free sites are associated with low quality alley-people.  The site may be free but likely it will attract all kinds of losers who 1. Probably can't afford to pay and/or 2. are not serious about finding someone to date.   By the way, if you are looking for such a reputable site, check out Men Love Black Women.  The pricing isn't all that expensive but they make sure to weed out the questionables.

3. Check back often:

Make sure to log in daily or at least every couple days if you are in communication with someone.  If you stay away for too long, the people you are talking to may lose interest and move on.

A new website for those who want to date black women has emerged.  Menloveblackwomen.com is the site for African American women and men interested in them.

This online dating site was created by Dawn Ali a couple years ago and redesigned this year.  It's a site that allows black women to be confident that the men there are actually interested in dating them.

The website offers a cheap subscription price and also offers the option of pay-as-you-go credits.  If you are a black single woman who needs to get out there in the dating world, check out Menlovebw.com.
