Man Who Beat Pastor with Guitar Was Paranoid and Acting "Off the Wall"

It turns out that Derrick Birdow, the man who crashed his car into a Texas church and bludgeoned the pastor with a guitar, did not know the pastor (Danny Kirk, Sr.).

Derrick Birdow, 33, was a married truck driver with four kids.  His family says that for the past week he has been acting strange, saying that people were after him.  His cousin says that he's been “out of his head” the past week and that he believes that someone gave him some drugs.

Birdow's concerned younger brother, Glen, drove down to the area to try to figure out why Derrick Birdow was saying that someone had stuck a needle in his arm and that people were trying to kill him.

Glen Birdow says that the brother he knew was a loving person and sends condolences to the victim and his family,

“The person that I knew was loving and caring, and he was not a killer.......I just don’t know what happened. I’m so sorry for the pastor’s family.”
