Sesame Street Hurricane Special to Air on PBS Friday

In light of the recent Hurricane Sandy disaster in the Northeast, Sesame Street will air an hour-long hurricane special.  This hurricane episode is not new.  It first aired as a 5-part series in 2001 and again in 2005 in the weeks following Hurricane Katrina.  It aired for five days and covered the topics of  hurricane preparedness and recovery.

Friday's special will omit the parts about preparing for the hurricane and focus on Big Bird's loss and how he deals with the aftermath of the storm.  His nest is ruined and officials tell him that he can't return home until the mud is dry.
