If you recently bought a Kia or Hyundai, you may be entitled to compensation until you sell your vehicle!
The Environmental Protection Agency announced today that Kia and Hyundai exaggerated the gas mileage on some of their automobile models. For example, they claimed the Kia Soul got 35 mpg but that value will be lowered to 29 mpg.
The miscalculations were due to an error in the testing procedure.
As a result, automakers will issue debit cards to consumers who bought these cars with overestimated gas mileage. The amount will be based on mileage, the price of gas in the area plus an additional 15%. The great news is that the car owner can get debit cards for as long as they own the vehicle--they just have to take it to the dealer to have the odometer checked.
The Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima are not affected.
