COINTELPRO Documentary: FBI Against Black Panthers

What Was COINTELPRO?

Some may correct that with the question "What IS COINTELPRO?"

COINTELPRO stands for Counter Intelligence Program and it was a secret FBI program that involved several continuous projects to infiltrate and destroy black revolutionary and political movements that posed a threat to the maintenance of the comfortable social order.

COINTELPRO was a secret until 1971 when an investigative agency raided the home of an FBI agent and shared the documents with news stations.

The main objectives found in the COINTELPRO documents were to discredit supposedly subversive movements and interfere with the ability of these groups to meet and work together effectively.

You can imagine what this meant for black civil rights leaders and groups that promoted the welfare of black America. They had no idea at the time that there was a larger machine in the government that was working directly against them.

This FBI counter intelligence program was not above framing black people to have them put in jail or being involved in killing prominent charismatic black leaders with the potential to cause widespread uprisings among African Americans.

The intent of the counter intelligence program was to suppress the actions of black political movements by whatever means necessary.

Did you know that FBI agents were informants to the KKK and sometimes even active members of the hate group?   Or that the FBI was sending fake letters to members of the black panthers (supposedly from other members of the group) to cause confusion and chaos--an attempt to have the group self destruct?

The Documentary below is called:  COINTELPRO: The FBI's War on Black America.  You should watch it.
